In Microcontroller & Coding, students learn how software and hardware work together using industry-relevant microcontrollers and programming workflows. Students are introduced to coding fundamentals, logic, and control systems while programming microcontrollers to interact with motors, sensors, and electronic components. Through hands-on builds and iterative testing, students apply real engineering processes to create functional capstone projects, such as a motorized maze, that respond to user input and real-world constraints. This course mirrors how engineers prototype embedded systems used in robotics, automation, and consumer technology.

Students Can Use These Skills For:

  • Programming hardware-based systems and embedded devices
  • Understanding how code controls real-world machines
  • Building interactive, portfolio-ready engineering projects
  • Preparing for robotics, engineering, and computer science pathways
  • Exploring careers in embedded systems and automation

Tools Used:

  • Microcontrollers (Arduino Microcontrollers)
  • Programming Languages used in embedded systems
  • Motors, Sensors, and Actuators
  • Circuit Prototyping Tools
  • Testing and Debugging Software

Students Will:

  • Learn coding fundamentals and microcontroller logic
  • Program hardware to control motors and interactive elements
  • Integrate sensors and electronics into functional systems
  • Test, debug, and refine code and hardware
  • Complete a Capstone Project, such as a motorized maze, demonstrating applied skills

Pathway:

  • Embedded Systems
  • Robotics
  • Software Engineering
